MLH
Kenya Harley, founder, smiling on a tree-lined Aiken street

Our story

Her porch light is still on.

Mertis Lee Harley raised more than her own children. On a quiet street in Aiken, her porch light was always on and her kitchen always had a plate for whoever needed one.

She kept a box by the door — a sweater here, a jar of preserves there, a note in her careful cursive. Nobody left her house empty-handed.

Her granddaughter Kenya founded MLHF to keep that porch light on. The Granny Box™ is her grandmother's habit, scaled up for a whole county.

"My grandma never let anybody leave her house empty-handed. That's what this is."
— Kenya Harley, Founder
